What is ExcelGod?
This will eventually be a place for me to share all of the Excel model-building experience that I've accumulated over 25+ years in Corporate America and 6+ years consulting across many industries. Not the "tutorial" data with 20 lines, but real-world data, formulas, and VBA that doesn't bog down to a crawl with 100K rows of data. Right now, this site is mostly just an "About Me" page until I have time to develop it.
Why the name Excelgod?
ExcelGuru was already taken :) But in all seriousness, I am one of the best Excel model developers and can create the fastest models by optimizing formulas and VBA. I've fixed models built by Excel MVPs, and many others. So "Excel" for obvious reasons, "god" meaning the best at something (not the big G meaning), and is the 1st 3 letters of my last name, so, double entendre. And ExcelGOAT is not the Greatest name Of All Time.
My models aren't just fast, but user-friendly, well laid out, and robust - they don't break. The P&L forecast vs actual model that I built for StarKist is still in use 18 years after launch. It is still the backbone of the entire Finance department's operations and reporting. Not just a side tool; it is the system everyone relies on. Upper Management even dubbed it the "Ed" Model.
I am dedicated to transforming messy financial, sales, and inventory data into robust Excel models that drive success for businesses. With over 25 years of experience, I offer tailored FP&A leadership and automation solutions across various industries. Join me in turning data into actionable insights and elevating your financial planning processes.
Ed is a finance and FP&A leader with 25+ years of experience helping organizations turn complex data into clear decisions, stronger forecasts, and better business performance. He has led planning, modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis across consumer products, healthcare, biotech, nonprofit, and enterprise environments, supporting companies ranging from startups to $2B+ divisions.
Ed is known for building financial models and planning tools that are not only accurate, but durable, fast, and practical for real-world use. At StarKist, he architected a 3.82 million-formula enterprise P&L forecasting model that replaced Hyperion Essbase, saved more than $3 million over third-party alternatives, and remains in production 18 years later. At GlaxoSmithKline, he developed a $436 million sales forecasting solution that achieved forecast accuracy within 1% and generated annual savings of $235,000.
An Excel MVP-level practitioner and AI prompt engineering specialist cited in Forbes, he has consistently eliminated 50% to 90% of manual reporting and planning work through smart automation, stronger process design, and deep Excel and VBA expertise.
Ed has deep experience with Nielsen syndicated data, including report setup, automation, and analysis. He used Nielsen extensively at GSK for 10 years, and at StarKist for 2 years. At GSK, Ed received two awards related to Nielsen work: one for combining Nielsen and POS data across Walmart, Club, C-Store, Dollar, and other channels into a comprehensive weekly consumption report, and another for developing an Oral Care Scorecard that identified $14M+ in Share Gap opportunities. He negotiated with Nielsen to lower the cost of Nielsen Dry Mouth DB development by $175K.
He also automated Nielsen's NITRO reporting by building a macro that opened and refreshed multiple reports, exported them to PDF, and saved them automatically, then emailed each to the appropriate distribution list — functionality that wasn’t built into NITRO at the time and, in talking to people at Nielsen, even just refreshing multiple reports still isn't.
As Founder of Consequent LLC, Ed has provided FP&A leadership, financial modeling, and automation support to executives across sectors, including CPG, healthcare, biotech, and nonprofit organizations. His work has included a long-term engagement with the Gates Foundation, where he helped strengthen budget-versus-actual reporting, forecasting, and finance operations. Clients value his unusual combination of technical depth, business acumen, and collaborative style.
What sets Ed apart is his ability to bridge finance, operations, and systems thinking. He does not just build models; he builds tools people actually use. Whether improving forecast accuracy, accelerating close and reporting cycles, or creating executive dashboards that simplify decision-making, he brings a practical, hands-on approach focused on measurable results. He is now seeking his next senior finance or FP&A leadership role, where he can help transform planning into a more strategic, forward-looking business capability.
He holds a B.S. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.
